Tools for Living
Make a list of all you have accomplished in 2012. Read it over a few times, and soak in all the good. List not only goals you have achieved, but also the times you've risen above old habits. List the times you've given people a kind word, gesture, a lending ear. List all of the good. Then make an outline for 2013. List all you hope to accomplish and traits you'd like to strengthen or change.
Focus for the day on all the things you love. Stay away from complaining. The moment you say something negative, begin instead to find the things you love. Look all around you. What makes you smile? What lifts your spirits? Keep this as your focus for an entire day, when you see how wonderful your day goes, you’ll want to keep this practice going every day. Have fun.
Read the blog, “I know! Let's have an island party” and for
two weeks become aware of how your actions affect others. Choose courtesy over selfishness.
Read the blog and everyday do something to “take the Santa door.” See how it affects you and brings out the spirit of the season. Have fun with it!
Take a moment and think about your spirituality and your own personal journeys. Are there any topics that you find yourself avoiding or shying away from? Perhaps you don't like to think about forgiveness. Or affirmations seem daunting and overwhelming. Maybe you don't feel like you are able to count your blessings or see the abundance of good in your life.
Once you choose what is it that you steer clear of, go to a bookstore, shop online, or borrow from a friend, a book on that specific subject. Confront the issue and see what you learn. Do not be afraid. Know that you are learning something about yourself by bravely addressing something outside your usual comfort zone.
Remember, sometimes what keeps us from choosing a topic or a book is exactly what we need to hear.
Start small if you have to. Take one drawer, one shelf, or one box and PURGE! Get rid of old or broken things. If you don't like something, but have kept it because it was a gift... get rid of it. Hold on to the memory of the giver's kindness, and free up space in your life in the process. Empty your life of clutter, one small space at a time so you don't get overwhelmed. Have clothes that you want to 'get back into" someday? Donate them! Not only will you be giving to someone else who may need something, but if you can "get back into" that size again, reward yourself by buying a brand new outfit.
When you get rid of clutter, your mind becomes more clear, your soul becomes more relaxed, and you can appreciate the space you are surrounded by. Remember. Start small. Take on manageable tasks and life will always be more manageable.
Spring is in the air. Make time in your busy schedule to be outdoors for a while. Plant something new in your yard or on your patio. Go to your local public gardens and wonder around, surrounding yourself in the beauty. Breathe in the air. Smell the sweet scents. Feel the breeze and the sunshine on your skin. Touch the grass. Enjoy the miracles of nature with your cell phone, iPods, and other technology off. Take at least 2 hours and relax into the earth. Sit. Breathe. Be.
Make a commitment to yourself for one FULL week. During that week, close your eyes and really concentrate on seeing a specific dream. Feel what it feels like to have what you want in great detail, using all of your senses. If it's a new car, imagine how the steering wheel feels in your hand. Inhale and smell the new car smell. Hear the sound of the car when you turn the key and start it up. Feel how you fit into the driver's seat and BE in the car. Use every sense and visualize having that car. Do it every day, at least a couple times a day for one whole week. You will be amazed at how your powerful mind will bring your dream to you.
The grains of sand on a beach, leaves on a tree. Look around at nature and see the abundance in our lives. Take one apple tree, how many apples grow? Hundreds? Now, take only one apple and count its seeds, each seed contains not just an apple, but also a whole tree that turns around and gives apple upon apple.
Abundance. Take time every day of this week and search for the abundance in your life. As you look for it, you will notice it gets easier to find. When your attention is on abundance, abundance will multiply.
What you focus on increases.
When you first wake up, take a moment for yourself and go outside. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and turn towards the sun. Raise your head, breathe deeply and move your head slowly back and forth. Let the power of the sun's rays radiate through your whole body. Feel the life-giving energy that the sun fills you with. Take that feeling of warmth and appreciation with you throughout your entire day.
